Are Pulpex bottles recyclable?
Yes. Pulpex bottles are designed to be widely recyclable through standard paper and card recycling streams. Because paper and card recycling rates are generally higher than plastic recycling rates, fibre-based packaging has a strong opportunity to support more circular packaging systems.
How do you prove Pulpex bottles are recyclable as waste paper?
To prove Pulpex bottles are recyclable as waste paper, we rely on industry-standard recyclability certifications and mill-repulpability testing that prove the container can be broken down in standard paper recycling streams. This is done to 4evergreen standards. https://4evergreenforum.eu/.
What is the 4evergreen score for Pulpex bottles?
The score depends on the fitment and closure choice. A standard Pulpex bottle can achieve a score of more than +60. Where a plastic or metal cap thread fitment is required for some filling lines, the score is typically nearer +30. Both formats remain recyclable in a standard fibre mill.
What happens to the internal coating during recycling?
During the recycling process, the coating layer and a small amount of fibre detach when the bottle is broken up in the mill. The coating separates cleanly without generating “stickies”, while the extracted fibres can be used to make high-quality fibre products.
Has Pulpex conducted Life Cycle Analysis work?
Yes. Pulpex has conducted cradle-to-gate analysis showing a significant carbon reduction versus glass and an improvement versus PET. Pulpex provides data to partners as required to support their own product-specific life cycle studies.

Why do we need a paper bottle? Glass is great, and recyclable too.
At Pulpex, we believe consumers should decide what type of bottle they prefer to use. Glass bottles are created using a lot of energy (which can create CO2 emissions) and recycling glass also takes a lot of energy. Many glass bottles are not recycled, especially in geographies with poor recycling infrastructure. Glass bottles that aren't recycled can last hundreds of years in the natural environment and if broken can create a safety hazard to humans and animals.
